Shouldn't January be a quiet month?

So, after a busy Christmas and New Year in London, January is supposed to be a quiet month, isn't it? Not so at Excel English, where we have already welcomed a Teachers' course and are in the middle of an exciting British Culture Experience! This is the first time this new course has taken place and the students taking part are really loving it.

As well as interesting lessons where they learn about different facets of Britain such as famous Britons, the monarchy, multiculturalism or the Olympics, the students also have visits to relevant sights, such as Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Stratford-upon-Avon and Cambridge.

And last week, after learning about different parts of Britain, the students had a session of Scottish dancing with one of our very talented teachers. You don't find that at every English school! Maybe they can put their dancing into practice on Burns Night next week (25th January). That is the evening where every Scot in the world tucks in to a traditional meal of Haggis with "Neeps and Tatties" (Parsnip and Potatoes to the rest of us!) and remembers the genius of Robert Burns. If you are not familiar with him, you can find out about him here.

Meanwhile, here's a video of those dancing students. As they found out, Scottish Dancing is just as fun as it looks, although it is difficult to get it right!

Happy New Year!

The school is now fully back up and running with all classes open, after a two-week break for Christmas.

The last day of term (17th December) was a great day which ended with a wonderful party for students and staff. Everyone enjoyed singing traditional English Christmas carols as well as listening to a great performance by two of our talented students.

We even managed to get some snow to fall to make it a special White Christmas party!

Let's hope that the year ahead holds great things in store for the school and all of our students.

Whats new at Excel English???

As always, here at Excel English we aim to keep
our students happy and ensure that their needs are met. In response to student requests for self-
service catering options in the café, and a more comfortable and relaxed room that students can treat as their own, we decided to give our café and school library a complete transformation!

The café

We now have a student fridge, a vending machine, a hot water boiler for teas and coffees, and three microwaves so students can warm up their lunch. By carrying out student surveys we have ensured that the food and drink options in our vending machines are what our students want. Unsurprisingly- the majority wanted chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate!

For students who would rather purchase their lunch we have the option for our students to buy freshly prepared sandwiches, panninis and delicious baked goods from our catering staff.

Self-Access Centre

The library has changed into a self-access study centre that has an interactive white board, computers with fast broadband internet connection, self-study materials such as text books, CDs and DVDs and English reading books that are clearly labelled so that students can choose the correct level.
